Now that Barnum & Bailey have hung up their hats and all the elephants have gone on to live happier lives doing…whatever elephants do when they're not balancing on balls and flinging batons, life under the big tent is going to have to come to you. Because everybody needs some popcorn and cotton candy and a ring toss or two in their lives, here's how to keep the magic of the circus alive and kicking.

Clowns on Parade

TAKE A DEEP DIVE With this Activity
  • Clown costumes of your choosing. Can be anything really, but you might want to invest in a few red noses.
  • All your kid's favorite stuffed animals
  • Wagons for pulling
  • Bags of treats: popcorn, Animal Crackers, Cracker Jacks, etc
  • Your circus music soundtrack and a something to play it on (preferably with a loud speaker)
Let you kids go crazy dressing up as "clowns" which means whatever crazy costume they want to wear plus a red nose. Load up all their favorite stuffed animals in wagons (lions and tigers and bear, oh my). Prepare treats by either divvying them up into small gift bags (think party favor bags) or buy individualized boxes. Animal crackers are great for this one. Get your playlist going and head outside. March around the neighborhood in your clown parade passing out treats to passersby (Hint: it helps if you bring the neighbors in on this one so they can be ready to lend applause). Let the kids show off their crowd appeal and enjoy watching the least scary clowns in the world make everyone smile for a day.

Let's let Leo, the Lion, lead the charge as the constellation this week. He was one of the earliest constellations to be recognized, with sightings going all the way back to the Mesopotamians and one of the easiest to find in the night sky.
