VW Bus Photo Contest Winners!

by ParentCo. April 24, 2015

Like people, trees, and cookies, VW buses are beautiful in their diversity. Mike DeCecco wrote a beautiful, funny essay about how his life-long Westfalia obsession evolved into a family adventure when he became a father. To celebrate the VW bus (Westy's in particular) we ran a photo contest that ended about a month ago. Two winners were picked: one based on votes, the other by a random drawing. They will receive a framed illustration of their bus, printed on archival paper. Over 100 entries and thousands of votes later, here are the winners. 1967 Double Door. (See the original contest entry.)  Its owner says: "DD is a daily driver, our camper bus (she does have a westy interior) and a Shasta Snow Trip Bus. The Shasta Snow trip is an annual bus trip with 1967 and earlier buses, taking about 450 miles of back roads and fire roads from lower Mendocino county in Norther CA to Mt. Shasta City. We do this trip on Super bowl weekend each year. Since getting DD we rebuilt the engine, had the transmission rebuilt, replaced most front end parts, cargo floor patching, insulating and just making her a more sound vehicle." 1987 Westy (See the original entry.) Its owner says:

"The name of our '87 Westy is ‘The Mistress.' This picture comes from summer 2014, in the Owens Valley of the East Side Sierras (California). We’re headed for Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon in Utah next week, might even make it to Capital Reef, we’re super excited!"

Congratulations to the winners of this contest! Have a VW Westfalia or other bus? Send us your family road trip stories of travel and advnture, and we'll share them here!
