Today on Motherlode KJ Dell'Antonia gives a shout out to coach Mike Matheny's new book, The Matheny Manifesto for the benefit of "every parent who will be sitting on the sidelines of any sport this spring."
Matheny's advice? Mostly, during the game, do whatever you could just to take yourself out of the picture. The kids dont necessarily need you to be yelling words of encouragement at the top of your lungs.
This is partly based on studies of athletes about what they want their parents to do at their games. Their overwhelming answer? Absolutely nothing besides watching.
