Parent.co Grows Up

by ParentCo. March 16, 2016

We just turned one. Thank you for helping Parent.co grow from a small side project into a vital daily digital publication for hundreds of thousands of monthly readers. Here's what's next. Parent.co represents us. Our job as parents and caregivers is central to our lives. But parenthood isn't the only lens through which we see the world. We're curious. We have friends and myriad interests. Our children are most important to us, but we're still growing as people. We're involved in the process of our lives. As parents, there’s always new stuff to deal with. The truth is, we're all learning as we go. What works for some families won't work for others. This raising people thing? Pretty much life's most profound experiment. So much of parenting happens in isolation. We believe that, as parents, it's better to be inclusive. It's better to listen to each other. We're all learning together. We want to encourage connections via Parent.co. We want Parent.co to serve as a place for parents to share ideas that help each other succeed. We want it to serve as a place to discuss substantial questions about parenthood in the modern context. Some of the articles published here are backed by research. But many of them are supported by personal experience, learned in the trenches, and worked out in conversation with friends and family. Now in our second year, Parent.co is launching a daily newsletter, and we're ramping up our regular content schedule. Along with our existing features, we're now also publishing:
  • "Your Theory, Our Family" - we test your ideas about parenting on our families.
  • Working Parents column.
  • "The Friendly Debate" series, changing month to month.
  • Renewed focus on science reporting for raising healthy, happy kids.
  • News and culture stories that help parents keep up with the latest trends.
  • Recipes for both parents and kids.
  • Focus on activities, games, and media that parents and kids can enjoy together.
  • "Back Talk," channel, snapping back at the stupid things that happen daily.
It Matters So many parenting sites and resources are schlock. There's so much commercialized crap aimed at parents. We don't want to be part of that. We believe that many of our world's problems could be fixed if we raised more supported children. We think it matters for people to feel excited about being engaged with their families and kids. We believe being a parent is insane but absolutely incredible. We love it. And we want to represent that love here on Parent.co. Have a story to share? Click here. Have feedback, or suggestions? My Resolution is My Feminist Manifesto

by ParentCo.

Because of all this, and so much more ... I resolve to stay the course set out by our courageous foremothers who fought pointedly, persistently for equality. I'm a woman raising a daughter in a world that values her more for her bone structure than her brain. This is my resolution. This is my feminist manifesto.

My Only New Year’s Resolution Is to Be Kinder to Myself

by ParentCo.

I now know there are steps I can take to change how I think, to find the true me again. That is why I am going to take better care of myself this year. In fact, that’s the only resolution I care to make. For both my own health, and as an important example to my kids, this year, I'm resolving to practice a kindness that starts from within.
